Natural blue diamonds are amongst some of the rarest and most precious of stones. Collectors with deep pockets will soon have the opportunity to buy one of the famed De Beers Millennium Collection of blues.
The Millennium Jewels Collection was assembled by De Beers in the year 2000. It consists of twelve high quality diamonds, nine of which are graded as “fancy vivid” blue. All twelve gems were cut and polished by Steinmetz and laser inscribed with a unique serial number.
One of these blues is to be auctioned by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong this April. The 5.16 carat stone, currently owned by a private collector, is described as being classic pear shape and internally flawless. It’s expected to sell for somewhere between $4.6 and $5.8 million.
